EDE702 Serial to LCD Interface IC
The EDE702 Serial to LCD Interface IC was created in response to numerous requests for a low-cost, production version of our popular EDE700 LCD IC. With a few less-needed features removed, such as row shift-up and character readback, the EDE702 is able to meet the needs of nearly all designs requiring a text liquid crystal display. In addition, a serially-addressable digital output pin and 4 MHz operation make the EDE702 ideally suited for embedded LCD interfacing.

The EDE702 IC is designed to conveniently control text-based LCD modules via a simple two or three wire link. This IC allows both engineer and hobbyist alike the ability to easily incorporate an LCD module into their design using a minimal amount of I/O lines. The EDE702 allows full LCD control, including the creation of custom characters. The EDE702 is capable of utilizing the left-to-right scrolling feature built into most LCD modules, as well as offering a digital output pin for addition of an LED indicator, piezo beeper, etc.. 2400/9600 Baud rate and selectable serial data polarity allow the EDE702 to easily communicate with most any serial device. Connection to almost all microcontrollers, stamps, or microprocessor systems can be made using a single wire, without any type of voltage level conversion. Connection to a PC can be made using only a 33K Ohm resistor. Conection to microcontrollers requires only one pin, typically the UART ("universal asynchronous receiver/ transmitter", or serial port), or one digital I/O pin & a software UART in microcontrollers lacking a hardware UART (see microcontroller datasheet or contact us for additional details).

To Order, Click on your choice:

  • EDE702/P (DIP Package)
  • EDE702/SO (SOIC Package)
  • The EDE702 requires a 4 MHz Resonator or Crystal to operate. We offer a 4 MHz ceramic resonator with built-in load capacitors. Alternately, you may choose to supply your own crystal.
4 MHz Resonator with internal load capacitors:  $1.50
